Cheetah Revival in India

India was once home to Asian cheetahs 75 years ago, declared extinct in 1952. The last known cheetah was killed in 1947. In 2022, the prime minister reintroduced African cheetahs to Kuno National Park, with 8 from Namibia and later 12 from South Africa. However, Indian conditions proved challenging. Cheetahs developed thick fur for African monsoons, which caused 6 adult and 3 cub deaths this year. A few died due to maggot infection, and the others died due to pre-existing heart and kidney conditions. As per the reports, one cheetah died due to a violent mating interaction.
