China's Deep Underground Lab Leads Global Hunt for Dark Matter

China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL), the world's deepest and largest underground research facility, recently opened its second phase, CJPL-II, 2,400 meters beneath the Jinping Mountains. Scientists from Particle and Astrophysical Xenon Experiments (PandaX) and China Dark Matter Experiment (CDEX) are utilizing the expanded space to upgrade detectors, aiming to unlock the secrets of dark matter, constituting over 80% of the Universe's mass. Shielded from cosmic rays, CJPL-II facilitates precise observations. As the quest for dark matter intensifies globally, the CJPL-II teams plan to enhance detector sensitivity, fostering collaboration for a deeper understanding of this elusive cosmic enigma.
