How do democracies fall?

Since the republican government system was instituted in the Western world, based on the ancient Greek and Roman political texts, the West has faced some tyrants, especially in the last century. Studying republican history after the 19th century, Levitsky and Ziblatt wrote a book called "How Democracies Die," which tries to explain how authoritarian leaders gain political space, convince the majority of voters, and how to identify tyrannical politicians.

"We shouldn't chase what has passed or what hasn't come either." - Karl Jappers.

Thesis on "How Democracies Fall?"

As explained before, the book "How Democracies Die" aims to explain how tyrant politicians gain leadership in their country and how dangerous it can be for the population. The authors argue that the downfall of democracies often happens through elections today, rather than through violence as in the "old days," even though the politician presents themselves as authoritarian and ferocious.
