Climate change is impacting food crop productivity and, thus, food prices. The price of tomatoes in India has been skyrocketing for the past few months. Crop yields have been impacted due to heatwaves, delayed monsoons, landslides, and other recent irregular weather patterns, which are indicators of a climate shock. Another factor affecting crop productivity is the spread of the tomato mosaic virus and the cucumber mosaic virus amidst tomato crops in several states. Research has revealed that controlling plant viruses becomes exceedingly difficult with an increase in global temperatures. This suggests how climate change leads to food crop damage.
