The Digital Divide: Impacts on Mass Communication and Information Distribution

The socio-economic divide in the availability of tech and the World Wide Web known as the "Digital Divide" has an important effect on how people communicate and how information is distributed. Those without enough access remain on the periphery and are unable to access the vast online resource reservoir. This disparity makes inequalities worse by limiting access to education, employment, and civic engagement. Information, previously seen as a catalyst for democracy, is currently at the risk of exacerbating existing power inequalities. To close this gap, it will take coordinated measures, from infrastructural development to digital literacy initiatives.
