The 'Only Females' temple: Kamakhya Devi

Perched atop Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, Assam, the Kamakhya Devi Temple radiates a mystical aura. Dedicated to the goddess Kamakhya, it holds a unique ritualistic aspect where, during the annual Ambubachi Mela, the temple is believed to undergo a symbolic menstruation. During this period, the sanctum remains closed for three days, signifying the creative and nurturing aspects of the goddess. Interestingly, only females are allowed to participate in these rituals, symbolizing the divine feminine's connection to the cyclical forces of nature. This exclusivity adds a layer of cultural significance, highlighting the temple's role as a space for celebrating the sacred feminine energy.
