The Science Behind Snoring: Exploring the Causes and Solutions
If you share a bed with a snoring partner, you may understand how frustrating it can get.
But why do people snore? Snoring isn't just a test of patience and mental fortitude. Even
animals like dogs, cats and elephants do it! It occurs when our upper airway muscles
relax during sleep, which causes the air that passes through to vibrate these muscles,
producing sounds that we call snores. Factors such as sleeping position, excess facial
and neck fat, alcohol consumption, and facial structure also influence snoring. So, if you
have a bothered roommate, consider reducing alcohol intake and exercising.
